2005 Summer Theatre Camp

The EDGE Center offers summer "day camps" to encourage students' interests and show how all four "core" subjects (English Language Arts, math, science, and social studies) tie together in the "real world."

This year's day camp focuses on theatre studies. Two programs are offered.

Emphasis is placed on learning elements of theatre through play.
  • Charades teach movement.

  • Echo songs work on projection.

  • Tongue twisters help with diction.
Two student directors (high school junior- and senior-level) each lead the other participants through the production of a one-act play of his or her choosing.

The "History of Theatre" is studied to provide a knowledge base from which students grow.

Students design and create their own costumes and props as well as the set.
Students create their own skits and direct all participants in the production of their skit.

This year, 2 students have written their own plays, and 2 students have adapted well-known stories or songs.
Nichole Brant is directing "The Pied Piper of Healthy Town."

Victoria Wolcott is directing "King Cole's Court."
Students will be performing at the 2005 Sea Serpent Festival, in Perry, New York, on Saturday, July 30th, at 10:00 a.m.
A One-Act Festival will be scheduled for the weekend of August 20th.
